Pokémon Translation Project

This project is a work in progress.

The goal here is to go through the entire Japanese Pokémon game (Green Version) and translate all the text into English, or perhaps to start with both the Japanese and English versions and to see how they match up. I also wanted to add in the kanji since the original Game Boy games did not include any.

I am still deciding how best to present the material. I originally wanted to do it in the form of an interlinear gloss, but I figure that the sentence structure differs too much which would obscure the meaning of the whole. I then decided maybe to put the two texts side by side and use some JavaScript upon mouseover to show how each word in the one language corresponds to a word in the other.

This seems to work, but the drawback is that the official localized English version is not a very word-for-word literal translation but takes liberties in order to make the sentence sound more natural. I was thinking about maybe including some notes on how the English departs from the Japanese, but then I was thinking that I may decide just make my own (more literal) translation.
